TransCoal specialises in despatch/demurrage management.
Despatch - financial reward paid by vessel owner to the charterer if the load / discharge operations are completed in advance of expiry of laytime. Usually paid at half the demurrage rate.
Demurrage- financial compensation paid by charterer to the vessel owner for delays after the laytime has expired at the load/discharge port.
Over 250 million tonnes or 3,500 shipments processed since early 2003.
16 major coal mine's have outsourced this service to TransCoal in Queensland and New South Wales through the ports of Newcastle, Gladstone, Brisbane, Dalrymple Bay and Abbot Point .
Despatch/demurrage is one of the most time consuming and inefficient processes especially for joint shipments of several different coals on one vessel. The duplication of resources in each marketing department immediately disappears with centralising the calculation and settlement under the TransCoal umbrella. It also simplifies the process from the Buyer's perspective.
Up to 80% of Despatch/Demurrage is confirmed or settled by TransCoal within 3 months of Bill of Lading Date.
TransCoal has developed a unique multi query database which efficiently handles the complex recording, invoicing and monthly reporting and also includes a Net Des/Dem $/tonne Key Performance Indicator, important for gauging port efficiency.
